Tight-Buffered Cable vs. Loose-Tube Gel-Filled Cable

Tight-buffered fiber optic cable is typically thought to be used for indoor applications while loose-tube gel-filled cable is for outdoor applications. Historically, loose-tube gel-filled cable provides the best protection in outdoor environment but it is not suitable for indoor/outdoor applications; tight-buffered cable is suitable for indoor applications but it cannot well protect the cable in harsh environment as loose-tube gel-filled cable does. With the advancement of tight-buffered construction, is it still the case? Which one is better for interconnection in fiber link?
